PCM (Photo Chemical Machining) is
the process of creating precision parts through the
selective removal of almost any type of metal using
chemicals.
This process offers endless opportunities
to designers and engineers, since complex shapes are
as easily made as a simple hole.
Prototype parts can be obtained in
a short period of time, and the customer need not incur
the high cost of conventional hard tooling.
Production parts can also be fabricated,
using the same tool just as quickly.
PCM parts have the following benefits
:-
 |
Tooling costs are
low |
 |
Designs can be complex |
 |
Material remains
free of surface burrs |
 |
No change to material
hardness, grain structure or ductility |
PCM is employed in many types
of industries such as:
| Aerospace |
Automotive |
| Computer |
Consumer |
| Decorative |
Electronics |
| Mechanical |
Medical |
What Kind of Materials Can Be Etched?
Some common materials that can etched in thickness from
0.05 mm to 1.2mm include:
| |
Alloy 42 |
| Beryllium Copper |
Brass |
| Copper |
Carbon Steel |
| Magnetic Alloys |
Nickel Silver |
| Phosphor Bronze |
Stainless Steel |
| Spring Steel |
Kovar |
What Shapes Can Be Etched?
Etchable shapes are, generally, any configuration larger
than the thickness of the material.
When you give us the size of your
parts, we'll help you select a material that is compatible
with your application.
All etching is accomplished on flat
surfaces. After etching, forming achieves any final
three-dimensional configuration you may need.
