Along with one of our signage manufacturing clients, Mastercut played a pivitol role in the manufacture of the Palm Beach reef interpretive sign project.

The initial concept was put out to a few chosen signage companies and was won by leading Gold Coast firm Bremner Visual. Mastercut supplied all material required for the project and Bremners assembled and installed the structure.

This project used different materials and different processes all bought together to build the final result. Mastercut cut and folded the Corten weathering steel to form the base structure. Then 3 panels were made.

  1. The Tactile "Artificial Reef" Side is made from layered stainless panels that have been digitally printed to form the graphic. This panel explains how the reef works with ocean currents and waves by having the user interact with the sign.
  2. A copper panel dedicated to the mayor of the gold Coast was mounted on the front. This panel has been etched and part filled - All the text is filled black and the rest has been left as natural etch
  3. A Corten panel "The Palm Beach Artificial Reef" has been etched and 2 pack paint filled white - There is also a digital printed section showing the land and surrounds.
  4. And lastly there is a viewing portal that was rolled in house from 3mm Corten with a 1.5mm brass inner to give the effect of a tubing wave.

The overall structure is mounted to a rock of the same material that the reef was made from - Linking the whole job together. It's strong, Vandal resistant and will be there for many years to come. A great collaborative project between 2 innovative companies.
